On Tuesday, in the Friendlies match in Paris, a banana was thrown at Brazilian footballer Richarlison after Brazil won over Tunisia and Richarlison demanded action for this incident.
Richarlison believes that racism will continue everywhere unless punishment is handed out after this incident.
The incident occurred when Richarlison scored the second goal and ran towards the corner flag to celebrate his side’s second goal.
The footage of the incident showed that a banana and other object was also thrown onto the pitch, and Fred kicked the banana away.
After this incident, Richarlison tweeted on his Twitter account that as long as they stay blah blah blah and don’t punish, it’s going to continue like this every day and everywhere.
Richarlison got plenty of support on social media, including from his former clubs Fluminense and América Mineiro.
Before the game between Brazil and Tunisia, the Brazil team posed for photographs with an anti-racism banner that read, Without our black players, we wouldn’t have stars on our shirts.
CBF, the Brazilian Football Federation, issued a statement on this incident on Twitter. CBF said, Unfortunately, a banana was thrown on the pitch toward Richarlison, scorer of the second Brazilian goal. The CBF reinforces its position to combat racism and repudiates any manifestation of prejudice, they said.
Ednaldo Rodrigues, the CBF president, said, Once again, I come publicly to express my rejection, and this time I saw it with my own eyes, which shocked us. We must always remember that we are all the same, regardless of color, religion, or race, and I insist on saying that the punishments need to be more severe, he said.
